The
NAAUSA Board of Directors is working on several broad issues to improve
the pay, retirement, and job protections of all AUSAs. In order to accomplish
these goals, AUSAs must:
- Prove there is
wide support for these objectives by joining NAAUSA, and
- Pay NAAUSA dues
to help defray the costs of advocating the interests of AUSAs before
Congress.
During the current
110th Congress, NAAUSA is working on five initiatives affecting all AUSAs.
These initiatives are to:
- Enact legislation
that will provide AUSAs with the same retirement benefits as other members
of the federal courthouse family - a benefit which will increase an
AUSAs annuity by as much as 33 percent.
Based on some concerns raised at the November 1, 2007 House Crime Subcommittee
hearing, NAAUSA has been working with Congressional staff to make modifications
to the legislation and will be meeting with staff in early March to
discuss the proposed changes.
- Improve the security
of AUSAs and their families through personal security training, providing
government funded home security systems, ensuring secure parking, limiting
disclosure of personal information about AUSAs and family members and
allowing AUSAs who have the requisite training to carry firearms for
their own protection when requested by the AUSA.
- Increase funding
to the United States Attorney's Offices to fill vacant AUSA and support
staff positions, allow promised pay increases to newly hired AUSAs to
be approved and ensure that funding is available to hire new AUSAs,
if needed, at greater than entry-level salary.
In
addition, NAAUSA will participate
with other interested federal employee organizations in efforts to increase
the limitation on the maximum pay of top level federal employees.
