Reasons to
Join NAAUSA
(1) There is no
other organization whose sole purpose is to be an advocate for AUSAs.
(2) NAAUSA is the only organization seeking to
obtain equitable retirement benefits for AUSAs, which could result in a 30% or
greater increase in an AUSA’s annuity.
(3) As a percentage of their population, more
AUSA managers are members of NAAUSA than
line AUSAs, indicating management’s support of NAAUSA.
(4) AUSAs need a
professional organization; state prosecutors have the National District
Attorneys Association and the criminal defense bar has the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
(5) NAAUSA’s
influence on Capitol Hill has benefited AUSAs by, (a) defeating the 1999 Senate
plan to appoint all AUSAs for two-year periods, (b) proposing legislation
to allow AUSAs to receive comp time for official travel, (c) submitting language,
to be included in the court security bill, to improve AUSA security.
(6) NAAUSA’s
reputation on Capitol Hill means that AUSAs who are NAAUSA members have input
into a wide variety of law enforcement policy.
NAAUSA is routinely asked to provide comments on legislation under
consideration.
(7) DOJ recognizes
NAAUSA as an important ally on issues such as McDade,
the Patriot Act, etc.; DOJ is prohibited by law from lobbying Congress, while
NAAUSA has a legal and constitutional right to do so.

NAAUSA has
retained the services of a first-rate lobbyist. The Moyer Group, which also
provides lobbying services to the Federal Bar Association.

Through
NAAUSA’s network of members, AUSAs can learn whether policies, budget and
workload issues and other actions in a particular USAO are being applied to all
AUSAs.
(10)
Only NAAUSA
members receive 10% discounts on legal services and retirement counseling.
