1. Rule 16 Revision and Stevens Backlash. DOJ is attempting to blunt efforts by the defense bar and some federal judges, ignited by the Stevens case in Alaska, that would rewrite the FRCP to require federal prosecutors to turn over all exculpatory evidence to defense counsel.
2. Crack/Powder Bill Introduced in Senate: Senate Democrats introduced legislation, The Fair Sentencing Act, S. 1789, on Thursday that would establish the same sentencing guidelines for powder cocaine and crack offenses.

Lance Corporal Jeremy Burris Act - Amends the federal criminal code to modify the prohibition against destruction of veterans' memorials to include knowingly destroying the grave, headstone, or marker of any person in the Armed Forces and to extend such prohibition to memorials, graves, headstones, or markers on private as well as public property.

Combat Methamphetamine Enhancement Act of 2009 - Amends the Controlled Substances Act to require all regulated retail sellers of certain listed chemical products used to make methamphetamine to submit self-certifications of compliance with the requirements of such Act to the Attorney General.
Requires the Attorney General to develop a list of all self-certified individuals and make it publicly available on the website of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Prohibits distributors of listed chemical products from selling such products to individuals not currently registered with the DEA.
Impose civil penalties for negligent failure to self-certify as required by this Act.
H.R.17 : To protect the right to obtain firearms for security, and to use firearms in defense of self, family, or home, and to provide for the enforcement of such right.

On November 17, Senators Leahy (D-VT) and Hatch (R-UT) and Representatives Delahunt (D-MA) and Gohmert (R-TX) introduced "The Enhanced Restitution Enforcement and Equitable Retirement Treatment Act of 2009," S. 2786 and H.R. 4091, respectively.
