EOUSA
Encourages Cooperative Communications with NAAUSA
As a
result of a lunch meeting in July between Carol DiBattiste, Director,
Executive Office for United States Attorneys, Dennis Boyd, NAAUSA
Executive Director, and Rob Pittman, detailed to EOUSA from WD of
Texas, EOUSA has written to all United States Attorneys and First
Assistant United States Attorneys to "encourage your cooperation
in facilitating communications between NAAUSA and AUSAs in your
district." Ms. DiBattiste’s communication was requested by NAAUSA
because of concerns that some NAAUSA mail and faxes were not being
delivered to AUSAs, and NAAUSA survey results which indicated several
AUSAs were reluctant to join NAAUSA because of their belief that
the Department of Justice did not approve of the organization’s
activities (see page 8). The EOUSA communication also reminded U.S.
Attorney’s offices that P.L. 104-177, which was supported by the
Department, enables AUSAs to represent other employees or NAAUSA
before the Department, when not inconsistent with their duties as
AUSAs and that the Office of Personnel Management issued a regulation
authorizing agencies to provide assistance to professional organizations.
At the EOUSA/NAAUSA meeting, NAAUSA also suggested that the minutes
of the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee be provided to NAAUSA
for distribution and that there be regular meetings between EOUSA
and NAAUSA. EOUSA responded by noting that the AGAC will consider
posting minutes of meetings on the Department intranet system (operational
late in 1997) and will arrange for regular meetings with NAAUSA.
